Biography

Ingram Barss grew up near Lunenburg, on the south shore of Nova Scotia. For years, he has been moving around, camera in hand, photographing musicians and members of the corporate world, tv stars and landscapes. And when he's not working, his passion for capturing images continues to lead him to shoot behind the scenes, between the lines, and after dark.

Barss' work -- professional and personal -- has taken him all over Eastern Canada, New York, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Nicaragua, and many points in between. In the early 1990s, he became deeply involved in the Halifax music scene, and has since gone on to photograph Buck 65, Mohammed Ali, Elvis Costello, the Nylons, Joel Plaskett and many of the people and places he met along the way.

He has shot for clients large and small, including CBC television, CBS television, the Montreal Mirror, Symphony Nova Scotia, Apple Computers, the Coast Magazine, the University of Toronto, Ontario WSIB, Warner Music Canada, Sonic Entertainment Group, Maple Records...

A persistent use of cameras of all types -- from pinhole to traditional film, and the most current digital technology-- combined with solid technical skills and creative abilities has resulted in a diverse and compelling body of work, represented on this site.
